Each year, thousands of people gather around various spots across the Midwest for food shows separately hosted by The Thompson Company, Braunger Foods, and Variety Foods. This year, parent company TOBA Inc., had something much bigger up their sleeve. TOBA approached PLAY with a sizable request, asking us to facilitate all the branding for the first event that would combine all the three companies food shows into one massive event. From beginning to end, this project was in our hands, quite literally. We began with a name concept, jumping around before finally landing on ‘TASTE!.” We selected this name as it embodied the event, yet also could last for years to come and various themes the event will showcase in the future. With 80’s arena rock favorite, Loverboy, headlining the show, a rock band concert theme was in the back of our minds, we just needed a clever way to integrate it across all medias. (Shown above: A few sketch examples of logo ideas that we later brainstormed and refined as a team.) (Shown above: The final logo we designed, developed font styles and color treatments.) At the core of the Credit Union of America brand is friendliness. Across all facets of the business, CUA believes in being fair, honest, and above all else: nice. Recently, the organization asked PLAY to help increase overall service satisfaction scores among its existing members by giving CUA team members a refresher on expectations, service how-to’s, etc. The result is a simple flip book that can sit virtually anywhere, giving team members instant access to helpful tips and reminders on how to approach credit union members, and their fellow colleagues. Staying true to the idea of “friendly” the booklet showcases the word “Hello,” both as a simple greeting as an acronym to help them remember key deliverables. Inviting, playful and brand-elevating, the piece provides an opportunity to elevate the brand experience from the inside, out.
Historically, Credit Union of America has worked with the local chamber of commerce in communities they serve to welcome new residents to the area and provide information about the credit union. However, past materials have been heavy on content, which could leave new residents overwhelmed. PLAY was asked to recommend a solution that would draw these residents to their locations. PLAY created a simple, single-fold brochure featuring clean, benefit-driven content to quickly and easily educate consumers about the credit union and its offerings. Integrating large, bold graphics, the brochure stands out among other materials. Its playful nature engages recipients and can easily be customized to direct them to their nearest CUA location.
United Private Networks provides connectivity solutions for business customers in Iowa and Nebraska, specifically financial institutions, health systems and government entities. With limited brand awareness, United Private Networks approached PLAY to create a mailer focused on building brand awareness with strong product promotion. The project resulted in a flat mailer that featured bold brand elements combined with iconography and copy that supports the company’s focus on connectivity for business. Further supporting the goals of the project, an offer was included to support messaging about how United Private Networks collaborates with clients and builds relationships to enhance success. The mailer offered coffee and connectivity, a meeting “on us”.

Though Lincoln skies refuse us snow, our kitchen’s packed with cakes and bows. Huge thanks to our vendors for the seasonal treats! Come share our sweets! (the booze we shall keep)
All month we’ve been bustling with holiday orders, but today we took a break to celebrate Thanksgiving as a team. Our potluck-style feast boasted of sugared ham, a 20 lb turkey!, several types of veggies, rolls, and of course, pumpkin pie. During the prep we stepped on our mascot Heineken, broke the microwave, and stuffed ourselves with food. Clear signs of holiday success! From our cozy, ham-scented office we send gratitude to our clients, families, and friends: You give us reason to celebrate! Pictured below: Heineken couldn't be convinced to sport a festive hat. You can imagine how handsome he would have been.
Who can’t describe the standard holiday card? Some snow, some lights, brief wishes for a merry season. Well-wishes are nice, but our designs have a bit more sparkle to offer. Legacy Retirement Communities approached PLAY for a card that not only sent a serene holiday message, but also gave residents a gift to hold onto. Our design conveyed a simple wish for peace. On the back panel, perforated cardstock invited recipients to pop out and assemble a small Christmas tree. With a slip of ribbon, the tree easily transformed into an ornament. Holiday cards too often land a dusty spot on the fireplace mantle, but our card led back to the celebration. Legacy was thrilled, and recipients enjoyed their ornaments throughout the season. Add a bell or whistle to your card this year and give those you value an extra dose of cheer.
